The public does support the use of AI in Healthcare - but there are conditions. Why we need to get this right

First, the good news for advocates of AI in Healthcare - there is support for deploying the tech in this space. The not-quite-so-good news - that support is not unconditional. For support to be given, people want to see more proportionate regulation and assurance system-wide.

In other words, people are past the point of simply asking whether AI should be used in Healthcare and are now asking for evidence of benefits, accountability and, highly importantly, meaningful human oversight.

That means a re-thinking of current approaches which have grown up around healthcare products that are more static than the new generation of AI-enabled ones that are rapidly evolving in such a way that regulation needs to be able to cover the lifecycle of devices, from development and deployment through to monitoring, updating and learning from frontline use.
