Pixel 11 Drops Hardware Memory Tagging and GrapheneOS May Skip It Entirely
The Pixel 11 was meant to push Google's security forward. Instead, one of the most valuable hardware protections from the last few Pixel generations is reportedly gone.
A GrapheneOS project discussion says the Pixel 11 lineup does not support ARM Memory Tagging Extension, or MTE. The GrapheneOS team says that gap is serious enough that the phones fail their security requirements and the whole generation might be skipped.
This is not a small compatibility nitpick. It is a red flag from a team that has spent years making Android harder to exploit in the real world.
Google will likely talk about new security wins, like quantum-resistant crypto and other future-focused upgrades. Those things do matter. That is not the issue here.
