Apple’s newest MacBook Pro comes with a $900 question. Its higher price promises more power and professional features, but not every employee needs them.

Announced October 27, the 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro starts at $1,999 and goes on sale November 6. That’s $900 more than the 13-inch M5 MacBook Air and $700 more than the 15-inch model. For businesses planning laptop purchases, the price difference raises a practical question: which upgrades justify the additional expense?

The Pro offers more processing cores, a more advanced display, additional ports and twice the starting storage. The Air, meanwhile, retains many of the features businesses need for everyday work at a considerably lower price.

According to Apple’s M6 announcement, the new processor has a 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU. The company’s M5 MacBook Air specifications list a 10-core CPU and an eight-core GPU in the base 13-inch configuration.
