Community Marketing Is Getting Harder. Useful Content Is the Way In.
Advertising has moved into almost every part of our digital lives. It appears across social feeds, search results, podcasts, streaming platforms, apps, and increasingly, the entertainment we already pay to access.
Netflix’s advertising business now reaches more than 250 million global monthly active viewers through its ad-supported offering. Microsoft is also testing an ad-supported version of Xbox Cloud Gaming, bringing advertising into another part of the entertainment experience.
As advertising expands, audiences are starting to push back against the amount of commercial messaging competing for their attention. EMARKETER reported that interactive CTV ad engagement fell by half year-over-year in Q1 2026, from 1.84% of impressions to 0.92%. QR-code scan rates also declined across 2025, with EMARKETER attributing the drop partly to ad clutter and viewer fatigue.
For brands, that creates a question worth asking: how can you get noticed without becoming another source of noise?
