OpenAI Adds Virtual Try-On Feature to ChatGPT Shopping
OpenAI has introduced a virtual try-on feature for ChatGPT, marking a direct move into visual e-commerce and positioning the platform against established retail search platforms like Google Shopping and Pinterest. The feature allows shoppers to visualize how clothing and accessories look on them before making a purchase online.
The tool is powered by the company’s new ChatGPT Images 2.5 model, which brings upgrades in rendering accuracy, lighting consistency, fabric texture precision, and processing speeds. When browsing products or asking for fashion recommendations inside ChatGPT, users can tap a dedicated “Try On” button attached to shopping listings. After uploading a full-length photo or selfie, the model overlays the selected apparel onto the user’s image in real time.
To support the shopping experience, OpenAI has updated the ChatGPT Library with a “Favorites” section. Users can organize saved outfits, bookmark retail links, and store generated virtual try-on renders for future reference.
