BMW will show navigation and driver assistance in one 3D view from October

BMW will merge navigation and driver assistance into a single 3D view from October, on cars running its Operating System X, and says it will begin navigation-guided semi-automated urban driving in Germany in 2027. The UN regulation covering these systems only extends to system-initiated manoeuvres on urban roads from its 02 series, expected in force in late January 2027.

The display puts the car in its lane and at the right road level, shows the surrounding traffic, and overlays what the assistance systems are doing. Stephan Durach, a BMW senior vice president, called the interaction between navigation and driver assistance “an important step toward highly automated driving“.
