Balaji Srinivasan, standing in a room in Forest City in the summer of 2026, had everything a country has except one thing.

He had four hundred people who had gotten on airplanes to be there. He had a campus, and beds in it, and a canteen. He had a currency that no central bank issued and a coin bounty paid out daily for shipping code before lunch. He had a curriculum. He had a gym that opened at six and never emptied, and biometric dashboards glowing green across four hundred wrists. He had a culture, a vocabulary, in-jokes an outsider could not parse.
