Agent identity gets a DNS anchor – how GoDaddy built the Agent Name Service, then gave it to the Linux Foundation
Enterprises deploying AI agents need to be able to answer three basic questions about them. Who does this agent work for? What is it permitted to do? Is its code what it claims to be?
A Cloud Security Alliance survey of 418 IT and security professionals, published in April and commissioned by Token Security, found that 82% of organizations had discovered AI agents running in their infrastructure that nobody knew about, and 65% had experienced an agent-related security incident in the previous 12 months. Of those, 61% reported data exposure and 35% financial losses.
The Agent Name Service (ANS), which the Linux Foundation announced its intent to launch on June 23, makes those questions answerable using infrastructure that already exists. ANS anchors agent identity to the Domain Name System (DNS), the naming layer that has routed internet traffic for 40 years. There is no proprietary namespace to buy into, though...
