A massive 12TB data archive from Valve’s legacy Steam2 infrastructure has leaked online, containing unreleased games, abandoned prototypes, and internal development files spanning from 2003 to 2013.

To quickly clarify, the leak was not the result of a hack or anything malicious. Rather, archivists and data miners accessed an improperly secured, publicly accessible endpoint left open on Valve’s outdated distribution network. The exposed files cover the operational era when Valve distributed software using proprietary cache file formats like GCF and NCF before migrating to HTTP-based SteamPipe system in March 2013.
