OpenAI Nears Completion of Record-Breaking $40 Billion Funding Round

OpenAI is reportedly on the verge of finalizing the largest funding round in history, valued at $40 billion the round is being led by Japanese conglomerate SoftBank, with several venture capital firms in discussions to participate.

The latest funding round, which surpasses all previous records as per PitchBook data, would push OpenAI’s valuation to $300 billion—nearly double the $157 billion it reached in its October 2023 round.

OpenAI’s Growth and Future Projections

A source cited by Bloomberg revealed that OpenAI generated $3.7 billion in revenue last year, with expectations to reach $29.4 billion in 2025. However, the company does not anticipate being cash-flow positive until 2029, when revenues are projected to exceed $125 billion.
