Will You Buy Sony’s PS6 Handheld If It Costs Over $600?

If you were hoping Sony’s rumored PlayStation 6 handheld would make a splash as an affordable way to experience next-generation gaming, recent industry scuttlebutt may ruin your day. According to well-known hardware leaker KeplerL2, even hitting a $600 price point for the rumored handheld is "definitely not possible right now."

To put that pricing into context, the PS5 Digital Edition carries a $599 MSRP, while the disc edition costs $649. So if KeplerL2's analysis is correct, a next-gen handheld from Sony could end up costing as much as, and likely more than, its current-generation consoles.

Notably, Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Hideaki Nishino has gone on recordsaying that the company does not intend on selling hardware at "substantial losses," sparking fears that pricing for the eventual PlayStation 6 could top the $1,000 mark.
