Why Miele Put a Camera Inside Its Latest Dishwasher
It seems the public wants fewer cameras, not more, but that hasn’t stopped the large appliance industry. While a fridge or oven camera almost certainly presents less of a privacy risk than a Flock surveillance unit — hey, it’s right there in the name — one could argue they’ve gone overboard.
Sensors and lenses have crept into nearly every other kitchen machine, met with a range of consumer sentiment. Smart ovens andconnected refrigerators aren’t new, but a camera-equipped dishwasher? When I heard that Miele snuck one inside its latest model, the Diamond G8 unveiled at IFA 2026 in Berlin, I was suspicious. After a rep walked me through the new machine’s novel smart features, the reasoning came somewhat into focus.
