Why Grafana Labs thinks open source is the only way to earn long-term trust in observability

Marc Chipouras, VP of Emerging Products at Grafana Labs, is describing the relationship between Grafana Cloud and Grafana open source. His position is that any Grafana Cloud customer could migrate to open source instead – and he sees that not as a business risk but as the mechanism that keeps Grafana Cloud honest.

It is also a useful lens for Grafana Labs' 4th Annual Observability Survey – 1,363 respondents across 76 countries, its largest to date – which doesn't read like a product brief. The findings point to engineers drowning in data, alert fatigue reaching crisis levels, and the tools supposed to make things simpler just not living up to their promise.
