Non-human identity management is difficult because we are dealing with identities that never sign in in the way humans do. Rather we are dealing with entities that include service accounts, API keys, workload tokens, SaaS app grants, and, of course, AI agents, all of which exist in the chaos of machine-to-machine sprawl.

These non-human identities outnumber human identities by 25x to 50x in modern enterprises according to the NHI Management Group. They have suddenly come into mainstream focus with the rise of agentic AI. While enterprises want to let workforces run these agents and give them access to systems, how are they to be managed without compromising enterprise security?
