On paper, choosing a lower-cost hosting provider can seem like the sensible option. The monthly infrastructure fee is lower, the cost per virtual machine or physical server resource, such as RAM or CPU, appears competitive, and the headline storage or bandwidth allowances may seem sufficient.

When procurement teams compare quotes line by line, the cheapest option can therefore be difficult to challenge.
The problem is that the invoice represents only part of the true cost. A low-cost platform can quickly become more expensive if it results in downtime, poor support, security gaps or additional pressure on internal teams.
