Picking an open-source observability tool for your LLM app usually starts the same way. You scan a "best of" list, you docker compose up whichever name comes up most, and within an afternoon you're looking at real traces.

The natural next step is building on top of it. You wire in alerts, you get your team into the habit of checking its dashboard every morning, you write internal docs that assume it'll still be there in a year. That part feels solved.

Here's the friction that step skips over: the landing page never tells you who actually owns the project, or what happens to your self-hosted instance if that changes. Most people don't think about it — until the tool they picked shows up in a Series D press release as an acquisition target, and the only place to find out what that means...
