Smartphones are great for taking notes because they are almost always within reach. But they are also great for doing about a thousand other things. You might pull out your phone to jot down an idea, only to see a notification, read an email, scroll social media, and completely forget what you were going to write down in the first place. A pen and paper solve the distraction problem, but notebooks aren't searchable, aren't particularly easy to back up, and have an annoying habit of not being around when you need them.
