Now that we’re approaching the halfway point of 2026, my quote of the year to date still remains the moment when Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff went off-piste in a panel session at this year’s Davos junket and dragged the conversation into the field of AI ethics, declaring of US firms attitude toward being regulated:

These US tech companies, they hate regulation.

It was a bold move and a worthy topic of debate - albeit one that his fellow panelists didn’t seem that enthused about engaging with that day - and a moment that sprang to mind when I caught up with Paula Goldman, the head of Salesforce’s Office of Ethical and Human Use of Technology. I’ve seen her at various events over the intervening years, but this was the first time I’d had some one-on-one time since 2019, shortly after she stepped into the role.
