The Apple Mactini Just Became a Real Computer
Inspiration can come from some very unexpected sources. That is what happened with the Mactini, a tiny laptop that first appeared in a spoof Apple commercial nearly 20 years ago. In the parody, the impossibly small computer had just a single input key, requiring users to enter text through elaborate tapping patterns. The Mactini was ridiculous by design, but that didn't stop maker Tucker Osman from turning it into working hardware.
The finished Mactini is a fully functional (but completely impractical) miniature computer built around a Waveshare RP2350 microcontroller board. It includes a color SPI display, custom software, salvaged electronics, and a 3D-printed enclosure, all carefully designed to recreate the fictional machine in every way possible.
