Samsung unveils 98-inch 8K LCD TV with RGB microLED backlighting

What just happened? Another TV has been unveiled at CES that is expected to be as technologically stunning as it is expensive (i.e., extremely). Samsung has shown off a prototype 98-inch LCD 8K television that uses an RGB microLED backlight, which offers several advantages over miniLED backlighting.

Samsung showed off a display labeled RGB Micro LED at its First Look event the day before CES began, reports FlatpanelsHD. However, Samsung has been producing microLED TVs for years, most of which are very large and stunningly expensive.

The reason why this particular TV was on display was because it's the first LCD TV that uses microLED backlighting. Compared to miniLED backlighting, it features at least three times more LEDs, meaning increased brightness, a larger number of dimming zones, and better energy efficiency.
