Nintendo Confirms Switch 2 Will Be Compatible With OG Switch Games

Nintendo may be on the cusp of revealing the successor to the wildly successful Switch, but the company won't leave its old console completely in the dust. In a recent briefing, Nintendo confirmed the Switch 2 (or whatever Nintendo calls it) will be backward compatible with games for the original Switch.

The announcement was made at Nintendo's midyear policy briefing. Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa confirmed a handful of details, including the promise of backward compatibility. "Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch," said Furukawa.

The question of backward compatibility comes up with every new console release, but Sony, Microsoft, and Sony have sometimes fallen short.
