Spatial Intelligence could complement the artificial kind. Here's how and why

Virtual Reality (VR) seemed just around the corner in the early 1990s, when pioneers like Jaron Lanier showed off impressive demos and promising use cases, like kitchen re-modeling plans in Japan. Over thirty years on, modern variants like Augmented Reality (AR) and Extended Reality (XR) have experienced many summers and winters, despite billions of dollars of investment.

But now, actually useful spatial intelligence use cases might finally be starting to emerge, bolstered by better goggles and glasses, not to mention the significant investment in back-end hardware, boosted in part by the investment in AI data centers and the supporting GPUs. The OpenXR standard is also maturing, and the design tools enterprises already run, such as Autodesk VRED and NVIDIA Omniverse, now support it.

The open question is which combination takes enterprise use cases from proof of concept to production. The consumer hardware gets the press, but the flexibility probably comes...
