Sony Raises Short-Term PlayStation Plus Prices Amid Profiteering Allegations
Beginning today, Sony is increasing the cost of one- and three-month PlayStation Plus subscriptions in certain regions. Both new and returning subscribers will be affected.
The updated structure raises the one-month Essential plan from $9.99 to $10.99 in the US, with three-month plans also going up in the US, Europe, and the UK. Sony says the adjustments were made in response to market conditions.
Ironically, Sony is currently facing a new US class action lawsuit over alleged "tariff windfall" profits tied to PlayStation 5 prices. The complaint, filed as Walker et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC in the Northern District of California, argues that when Sony raised the price of the PS5 by $50 in August 2025, it profited from the change despite claiming it was a direct product of new US tariffs on electronics.
