Former ServiceNow alumnus Chirantan "CJ" Desai quit as MongoDB CEO on September 28, 2026 after only ten months to join Meta as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, a title created for him by Mark Zuckerberg to lure him into the new role. His resignation was effective immediately and shocked Wall Street as the firm’s stock value tumbled more than $6 billion.
While it now looks for a full-time replacement, MongoDB’s board reached out for help from Desai’s predecessor as CEO, Dev Ittycheria who has stepped in as interim President and CEO to steady the ship.
