AI is incredible, but not as good as everyone thinks it.
Ethan Mollick is an Associate Professor at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, an AI researcher, and the author of New York Times bestseller Co-Intelligence. His work focuses primarily on the impact of AI on work and education and he provided one of the most thought-provoking sessions on the AI/human balance at a fringe event at Salesforce's recent Dreamforce conference in San Francisco.
When it comes to debating the future of work against the backdrop of the still out-of-control AI hype cycle, Mollick’s assessment is refreshingly candid:
It's really easy to get kind of caught up. Like, it'll do everything. It does everything...if you actually use AI for tasks, you realize that you're human.
He goes further, pitching what he calls the “intern model of AI”, but which he means:
