Okta CEO Todd McKinnon - a question of identity in the agentic enterprise

The last time I interviewed Okta CEO Todd McKinnon, back in 2017, we spent time discussing why the vendor was steering clear of industry buzzwords. At that year's Oktane, I remember that I was surprised by the absence of AI and machine learning from the conversation, which made its way into my copy. McKinnon was focused, instead, on building the foundations, connecting different technologies and making the platform useful. The more ambitious possibilities could follow once those pieces were in place, he said, and it was all very pragmatic.

Nine years later, sitting down with him again in Las Vegas, I found myself thinking about how far those foundations could take Okta today in the agentic era. I put it to McKinnon that whilst I had instinctively understood identity would be important to agentic AI, the conversations at this week's event had made me question whether I had underestimated...
