New iPhone Feature Helps You Prove Your Photos Aren’t AI-Generated
As the debate over real versus AI-generated online media grows more contentious, Apple has introduced a new way to prove that the photos you take with your iPhone are truly yours, not an AI's. Called Apple Reference Image, the system keeps a fixed version of each photo, like a digital negative, on the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max so people can see if any edits were made after it was taken.
The iPhone 18 Pro line uses a new camera sensor that records data at the pixel level when users shoot in Reference mode. The phone then sends that signed data to Apple's cloud, which creates a reference image and confirms it's from a real iPhone camera.
