Namma Yatri Tackles The Gender Gap In Urban Mobility

Women remain under-represented in India's app-based mobility workforce, even as many commuters, particularly women, increasingly prefer women drivers for early morning and late-night travel. For mobility platforms, that creates a gap between passenger demand and the availability of women behind the wheel.

Namma Yatri is attempting to address that challenge through a new initiative that encourages more women to view professional driving as a viable career.

The Bengaluru-based mobility platform recently organised a one-day experiential activation that invited women professionals from different industries to step into the role of driver partners. Rather than talking about the profession, the initiative allowed participants to experience it firsthand.

From Corporate Roles To The Driver's Seat

The experience began at Kempegowda International Airport, where participants logged into the Namma Yatri app, accepted ride requests, and drove passengers across Bengaluru, much like the platform's regular driver partners.
