Microsoft Smashes Patch Tuesday Record With 974 Security Fixes
Microsoft broke its previous Patch Tuesday record with yet another record-setter this week. September's Patch Tuesday will contain 974 total fixes, with 113 of them rated "Critical" for high likelihood of exploitation. So far this year, Microsoft has released 2760 security patches, more than doubling its previous record of 1250 CVEs patched in 2020. In August, the monthly record was not broken (only 415 vulnerabilities patched), July's Patch Tuesday previously held the record at 570 fixes.
Microsoft's increased update tempo is obviously enhanced by AI, which is driving much higher threat discovery capabilities.
It is important to note that while AI is indeed affecting both sides of the cybersecurity coin, we haven't seen a massive rise in AI-enhanced attacks--yet.
