Microsoft, Positioning Windows as "The Best Place" to Run Linux Workloads, Launches WSL Containers

Microsoft has officially launched WSL containers, a new feature for its Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) that make it easy to build, run, and deploy Linux containers on Windows — and to provide Windows applications with programmatic access to said containers.

"WSL is central to our commitment to making Windows the best place to build, run, and manage Linux workloads," says Logan Iyer, corporate vice-president for the Windows platform and developer at Microsoft, quietly ignoring that one would expect Linux to be the best place to build, run, and manage Linux workloads. "As AI [Artificial Intelligence], cloud-native development, containers, and open-source ecosystems continue to converge on Linux, more developers are choosing to perform these workloads directly on Windows devices. We're continuing our journey towards this goal with a new feature in WSL: WSL containers."
