Meta Patent Describes AI Glasses That Recognize People and Create Automatic Video Highlights

Meta has filed a US patent application describing AI glasses that could recognize people, analyze their expressions and actions, and create personalized video highlights from social events.

The application (US 2026/0238876 A1), filed in February and published last week, is titled "Smart Cameras with Assistant Systems." It's still being reviewed, so the company might not offer all the described features to consumers.

Those features include facial recognition technology that would identify people known to the wearer. This system could evaluate actions, facial expressions, gaze, and other details before choosing moments to record and save. For example, the system could recognize people at a dinner party, detect laughter, and create a collection of clips. Used retroactively, it could help a wearer recall where they met someone or what happened at a previous event.

Like camera-equipped smart glasses in general, though, a feature like this one carries major safety implications....
