The three letters SOS in the top corner of your iPhone are easy to overlook until you try to send a text or make a call and nothing goes through. Unlike a weak signal, which still lets you do most things slowly, SOS mode means your iPhone has lost its carrier connection entirely. It can reach emergency services, and that's about it. Understanding why it happens and how to clear it can save you a lot of confusion the next time those letters appear where your signal bars used to be.
