India Must Prioritise Cooling Security As Cities Expand

India’s rising cooling demand is emerging as an energy security and urban infrastructure challenge, prompting industry leaders, policymakers, urban planners, utilities, developers and sustainability experts to call for district cooling to become a larger part of the country’s urban development strategy.

The discussion took place at ISHRAE CoOL Conclave 3.0 in Coimbatore during a roundtable hosted and moderated by Grundfos under the theme, “Accelerating Net Zero Cities of the Future: The Role of District Cooling in India.” Participants argued that cooling can no longer be treated only as a building-level technology decision. As temperatures rise and cities expand, cooling infrastructure will increasingly affect electricity demand, public health, economic productivity and urban resilience.
