Life is not easy for a lot of leaders these days. Turbulence is widespread in both organizations and the outside world, not least due to the constant pace of technological change.

So, as the geo-political shocks pile up, leaders are not only having to deal with economic whiplash but with workforce change too. Such change includes shifts in employee expectations, points out Executive Coach Peter Carnochan:

There's been an evolution in culture that's showing up in the demands on leadership...We're really into a third iteration [away from traditional command-and-control management approaches] where the demand for emotional and rational intelligence is really growing, and people want to feel their leaders are capable of an empathy and self-awareness that allows them to be both compassionate and firm when needed.
