I watched 'The Mandalorian and Grogu' in IMAX — and this isn't the way to revive Star Wars on the big screen after a seven-year absence

The Mandalorian and Grogu is about as average a movie as you can get. Yes, it possesses a certain old-school charm, is occasionally entertaining, and should make a ton of cash simply because Baby Yoda is in it. Nonetheless, its high production value notwithstanding, it has the air of a TV movie — or, even worse, a truncated season of The Mandalorian itself — that might have been better served being a Disney+ exclusive rather than the first big-screen Star Wars film for almost seven years.

Pros

  • +Great action
  • +Baby Yoda upstages everyone
  • +Fun-filled exploration of new corners of the galaxy

Cons

  • -Plays it too safe from a storytelling standpoint
  • -Feels like multiple TV episodes stitched together
  • -Overreliance on nostalgia bait
