I Couldn’t Remember the Russian Words I Was Learning, So I Put Them on My Phone Screen

I started learning Russian because I wanted to understand and use the language—not just complete lessons inside an app.

But I kept running into the same problem: I could learn a new word, understand it in the moment, and then struggle to remember it later.

I tried studying vocabulary in the usual ways. The problem was not finding more Russian words. There were already lists, courses, flashcards, videos, and language apps everywhere. The difficult part was getting the right word back in front of me often enough for it to stay.

Most apps solve that by asking for another study session: open the app, choose a lesson, complete several exercises, and come back tomorrow. Even when the lesson is good, it still depends on remembering to begin.

Meanwhile, I was already looking at my phone screen throughout the day.
