How Calisen's new CTO plans to turn 16 million smart meters into a data business
Meter asset provider Calisen, the UK's largest owner and manager of 'smart' electricity and water meters, expects quite a lot of its newly appointed Group Chief Technology Officer, Diane Bitzel, who joined in April 2026.
The mission she has chosen to accept is not impossible, but it is far from insubstantial: take an existing but essentially rudimentary national IoT (Internet of Things) network and turn it into an enabler of business benefit for her new company - and, at least potentially, a way for the public to save money and become greener.
That would be a huge prize, given that the UK is reportedly the most expensive energy market in Europe.
Adding to the challenge, the company also offers products in the water sector - again, a utility few UK consumers feel especially positive about.
But with a determination to use data and AI to transform the service...
