GPT-5.6 Rolls Out Globally With Major Gains in Reasoning, Coding and Multimodal Skills

OpenAI rolls out GPT‑5.6 globally with Sol, Terra and Luna models, offering tiered performance, speed and cost for coding, research and enterprise workflows.

OpenAI has started rolling out GPT-5.6 globally across ChatGPT, Codex and its API, introducing three model tiers designed for different combinations of performance, speed and cost.

GPT-5.6 Sol is the flagship model, while Terra is positioned as a lower-cost option with performance competitive with the previous generation. Luna is the fastest and most affordable model in the family.

OpenAI says the models are built for longer and more complex work across coding, research, presentations, documents, spreadsheets, browsing and computer use. The release reflects a larger shift in generative AI: newer models are increasingly expected to coordinate tools, manage extended workflows and return completed outputs.
