Global Cybersecurity Talent Gap Hits 4.8 Million: KDEM Report
A global shortage of 4.8 million cybersecurity professionals is leaving organisations increasingly vulnerable to cyber threats, even as artificial intelligence (AI) reshapes cyber defence, according to the Global Cybersecurity Skills Gap Report 2025 released by the Karnataka Digital Economy Mission (KDEM) recently.
The report estimates global demand for cybersecurity professionals at 10.2 million, against an active workforce of 5.5 million, exposing 67% of organisations to heightened cyber risk due to talent shortages.
The report said cybercrime losses are projected to exceed US$23 trillion by 2027, while the Asia-Pacific region faces the largest cybersecurity workforce shortage globally. It found that 95% of organisations believe AI is accelerating cybersecurity adoption, 94% said AI can help address the cybersecurity skills gap, 93% have already adopted AI, and 90% believe additional AI training is needed to prepare cybersecurity professionals for emerging threats.
