Gartner warns culture gaps may derail AI governance by 2027

Gartner says 60% of organizations that ignore culture in data governance may fail to govern AI by 2027, citing resistance, weak engagement and low data maturity

Organizations that neglect the cultural side of data and analytics governance may struggle to govern artificial intelligence successfully, according to Gartner.

The research firm predicts that by 2027, 60% of organizations that fail to address cultural challenges in data and analytics governance will fail to govern AI effectively. Gartner defines governance culture as the mindsets, behaviors and workplace norms that determine whether governance practices are adopted and sustained.

Speaking at the Gartner Data & Analytics Summit in Mumbai, Anurag Raj, a director analyst at Gartner, said many organizations still focus primarily on creating policies and deploying technology while overlooking the cultural factors needed to make governance work at scale.
