India is witnessing a sharp rise in entrepreneurial activity, driven by artificial intelligence tools, flexible work ambitions, and changing definitions of career success, according to new data released by LinkedIn.

The professional networking platform reported a 104% year-on-year increase in members adding “Founder” to their LinkedIn profiles in India, the highest growth among global markets.

The trend reflects what the platform described as the rise of “portfolio careers,” where professionals increasingly move away from relying on a single full-time job and instead build multiple sources of income through startups, freelancing, consulting, content creation, investing, and side businesses.

According to LinkedIn’s findings, 75% of Gen Z entrepreneurs in India reported having multiple income streams, compared to 62% of Gen X founders. The report suggests younger professionals are prioritising flexibility, ownership, and experimentation over conventional corporate career paths.
