Don't Freak Out: iOS 27 Battery Drain Is Normal
Apple released its much-awaited annual iOS upgrade, iOS 27, on Monday. Many iPhone users have reported faster battery drain since then. Thankfully, this behavior is normal and temporary following a major update.
Battery drain after an update like this happens because the phone has heavy background work to do, even after the update appears to be complete. It may be rebuilding search indexes, downloading new assets, updating apps, and preparing data for Siri and other AI features, Apple says. This uses more battery and makes the phone run warmer than usual, even with the screen off.
Impact is most noticeable in the first 24 to 48 hours after the update. Some people notice extra battery drain for two to three days, or even longer if they have large photo libraries or heavy Siri AI indexing.
