Copilot Prompts Are Traumatizing the Contractors Hired to Read Them

To make AI seem as smart as it is, AI developers still lean on a lot of human input. But the cost of that input isn't always financial. Contractors brought in to help determine Copilot prompts' efficacy are struggling to deal with the barrage of sexually explicit and sex-adjacent prompts they have to deal with. That not only causes real problems for the contractors, but also raises additional privacy concerns for AI users, who may be unaware their images and explicit prompts are being viewed by someone else.
Per a jarring report from 404 Media, when a Microsoft Copilot user uploads an image and asks the AI to edit it, sometimes that image and prompt are sent to a contractor for evaluation. They can read the prompt, they can see the image, they can see the AI's output, too.
