Flip-style Android phones have been making their mark among phone buyers over the last several years. Though they share folding screens with larger book-style foldables like the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, flip foldables (often called clamshells) offer a more dynamic design than standard candybar-style smartphones while harking back to the simpler flip phones of the past. Motorola’s Razr phone line in particular has been a major driver, with analytics firm Counterpoint Research reporting that the company’s clamshell phones captured 44% of the foldable phone market in 2025.
And while Motorola’s $800 Razr, $1,100 Razr Plus and $1,500 Razr Ultra target different needs at different price levels, Samsung has also continued to iterate on its own flip-style Galaxy Z Flip phones.
