Apple TV’s Neuromancer Doesn’t Look Exactly Like Blade Runner — and It Shouldn’t
Neuromancer was supposed to be unfilmable. That was one theory about why this 40-year-old novel, winner of Hugo, Nebula and Philip K. Dick awards, had yet to be made into a film or TV show. After all, how do you visualize “bright lattices of logic unfolding across that colorless void”?
It looks like we’ll finally have our answer on Jan. 22, 2027, when Neuromancer premieres on Apple TV. Starring Callum Turner as washed-up hacker Case, and Briana Middleton as the razorgirl mercenary Molly, this adaptation is one of the most highly anticipated cyberpunk releases ever.
I’m not just saying that because I’m a massive fan of the source material. William Gibson’s 1984 novel has been quietly influential for decades. It’s a heist story about a powerful AI attempting to break free and merge with its other half; it also envisioned something called cyberspace, years before computers were mainstream.
