As part of its push around digital core convergence, French utility giant Engie attracted attention recently with an SAP overhaul program to modernize its systems from a heavily-customized SAP IS-U (Industry Solution for Utilities) which had become bloated with data to an unmanageable proportion, to an S/4 HANA architecture.
This involved a 70% data reduction in the process, leaving behind redundant B2C data hosted in the old systems, taking the database footprint down from 14TB to 2.5TB.
