Add Custom Splash Screens to Your Raspberry Pi Builds with Thomas Griffiths' Splash Asm

The Raspberry Pi family of single-board computers and computers-on-modules (SBCs and COMs) have a new feature, inspired in part by the M5Stack CardputerZero: custom early-boot splash screens on SPI and I2C displays, available now on everything but the Raspberry Pi 5 and Raspberry Pi Compute Module 5.

"With the cyberdeck trend inspiring countless colorful Raspberry Pi creations, and the release of new handheld maker devices such as the [M5Stack] CardputerZero and [ZitaoTech] Hackberry Pi, there has been an increase in small SPI and I2C displays being used as the main display for Raspberry Pi," Thomas Griffiths writes of the feature he's brought to the platform's firmware. "To help them look more responsive during boot, we have developed a way to add custom splash screens to these devices using a little language and an interpreter in the bootloader."
