The Enterprise Tech Year - Cloud ERP

Software buyers are seeing an ERP marketplace that’s undergoing a tremendous amount of change and more is likely to come for 2025. Sometimes we need to remember the past to better assess the future and this piece shows clearly the extent of the changes afoot.

In 2024, we saw ERP software undergo a lot of changes: AI capabilities started to mature, pricing was challenged, platforms became less of a story while ‘agentic AI’ capabilities were all the rage. Verticals also got a lot of love from major ERP vendors. Customers clearly were facing a learning curve re: generative, algorithmic, RPA and agentic-AI tools all while ERP became a moving target.

For 2025, vendors will face more changes as: AI can develop software code more cost-effectively than humans (in some cases); the nature of work and applications will mutate; and, citizen-AI tools will wreak havoc on some old-school processes. Bottom ...
