Zoho Invests Rs 70 Crore In ONDC’s Sovereign Commerce Infrastructure
Zoho Corporation has invested Rs 70 crore in the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), strengthening support for India’s sovereign technology and open commerce ambitions.
The Chennai-headquartered software company said the investment is aimed at helping ONDC expand its digital commerce ecosystem and accelerate adoption among micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs).
India’s digital commerce landscape is entering a new phase as policymakers and technology firms rethink how digital markets should function; open commerce networks are increasingly being positioned as alternatives to closed marketplace ecosystems dominated by a few large players.
Open Networks Move Beyond Experimentation
ONDC was launched by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) in 2021 to reduce dependency on platform-centric e-commerce models. Unlike traditional marketplaces where sellers operate inside closed ecosystems, ONDC enables interoperability between buyer and seller applications across a shared network.
