A hot potato: An unwelcome moment is approaching for die-hard Windows 10 gamers. Nvidia's previously announced move to stop issuing new GeForce Game Ready drivers for the OS takes effect after October, limiting its support to quarterly security releases and critical bug fixes.
The cutoff comes one year after Microsoft officially retired Windows 10 on October 14, 2025. Nvidia granted the aging operating system an extra 12 months of full Game Ready and Studio Driver coverage, allowing owners of supported GeForce cards to continue receiving optimizations for new games.
Team Green says the final Windows 10-compatible Game Ready driver will arrive in October 2026, while the first release to exclude the OS is scheduled for November.
